Summer is synonymous with outdoor concerts, vibrant performances, and the opportunity to experience live music in unforgettable settings. Throughout the Chicago area, music lovers gather to enjoy performances by world-renowned orchestras, conductors, and soloists, making the season one of the most anticipated times of the year for the performing arts.
At the Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative (CMPI), we believe that experiencing live performances is an important part of a musician’s artistic journey. Hearing professional musicians perform offers inspiration that extends beyond the practice room, providing opportunities to observe musical interpretation, ensemble collaboration, and expressive artistry at the highest level.
This summer, CMPI was pleased to offer members of our community access to performances presented by two of the region’s premier music organizations, the Ravinia Festival and the Grant Park Music Festival. These festivals are renowned for bringing exceptional artists to iconic venues such as Ravinia, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, and the Hunter Pavilion, where audiences can experience extraordinary music in both indoor and outdoor settings.
The programs featured this season celebrate some of the most beloved works in the orchestral repertoire, including Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony and Violin Concerto, Gershwin’s An American in Paris, Stravinsky’s The Firebird, Debussy’s richly atmospheric orchestral music, and Dvořák’s “New World” Symphony. These masterpieces are performed by internationally acclaimed conductors—including Marin Alsop, Klaus Mäkelä, Kedrick Armstrong, and Giancarlo Guerrero—and distinguished guest soloists María Dueñas, Gabriela Lara, and Anna Akiko Meyers.
Several performances also include opportunities for audiences to engage directly with conductors and soloists through special pre- and post-concert conversations. These discussions offer valuable insight into the artistic process and provide a deeper understanding of the music, enriching the concert experience for audiences of all ages.
The response to CMPI’s concert initiative this summer was tremendous, with all complimentary tickets reserved shortly after they became available. The enthusiastic interest reflects the important role that live performance plays in inspiring musicians, strengthening community connections, and fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
CMPI is proud to support opportunities that encourage artistic growth both inside and outside the classroom.
